Birding at Bang Pra–Chonburi

Sawadee Khrap

Tai and his American friend Jim visited last week and we went to the Bang Pra No-Hunting Area in Chonburi_MG_3539BangPhraNoHuntingBangPhraBirding_MG_3699Jim is an avid “birder” and this was my chance to check it out too.   The last photo is Jim walking away and Tai in the beached boat – This is the first time I have ever gone “birding” and the place is amazing – Jim, with his binoculars, said he counted over 35 species the day we went and when he and Tai went back the following day, they saw over 50 species and one flock of over 500 birds.  The place is rated as the best birding in Thailand.

Then we went to see the Khao Kheow Open Zoo just around the corner from the reservoir._MG_3571_MG_3639_MG_3604_MG_3669   This place is amazing too – complete drive the car around zoo with a great aviary and a huge collection of birds -  The place was packed with visiting students and the above 2 boys from Nong Kai posed for a snap.

******* SLIDESHOW *******

Had a great time and experienced something new – I do intend to visit again and get some better photos – this time I was more intent on looking than shooting, although I don’t see myself as a “birder” – {way too damn hot for me to set in a blind and wait for that perfect shot} – I wouldn’t hesitate to go on another trip.

So if you enjoy birding and are visiting Thailand be sure and visit this place –

Trouble in Paradise

Sawadee Khrap

As always, with all Go-Go houses in Thailand, you have to be careful about under-age girls/boys working there.  CaptureMost all of the establishments make sure all employees are of age – but some still try to get around the law.

I just posted about Sunee Plaza and had a photo from the front of the “Mic-My” – what do you know – It’s in the Pattaya Daily News.

Busted      Devil    Steaming mad   Thumbs down

So I just want to point out that anytime or anywhere you go and are waited on by any young person, make sure,  if you are planning to get to know them better,  that you closely check their ID and age.  Don’t offer dinner if you don’t know how old they are.

The dancers are great – shows are entertaining – drinks are refreshing – the boys/girls are beautiful and there to serve you  – but be careful if your planning anything else.  Don’t end up spending your vacation in jail.

C….Boys LIVE Sunee Plaza

Sawadee Khrap

_MG_3457Went down to visit and grab some photos of Dave’s new C…Boys LIVE Bar in Sunee Plaza.   In addition to our friend “Nut”, standing right in white shirt with logo – there are other cute boys to greet you at the door.  Mod, F, Aon, You and Pom, get to work about 8:30 each evening  – Stop by, have a drink and say hello._MG_3453

_MG_3469_MG_3461

Of course the place is really bright for the photos, but usually it’s much darker and more relaxing.  After this, I sauntered through Sunee to see what was happening – it was 8:30 and nothing started yet – just setting up, but the lights were on and the customers and boys were just starting to arrive.

You can see from the first photo – the old “Tom Yum”  has changed it’s name to “Cocktail Boys Club”,

I’ll have to stay up later and go down and get some shots when it’s busy.   But that’s way past my bedtime – Devil

Perspective – Set it straight – Carspace

Sawadee Khrap

I have been studying a terrific free course in drawing in perspective by Matt Kohr from CTRL+Paint – this is so crucial in paintings, drawings and Capture2creating realistic photomontages in Photoshop. And his web-page lead me to Warren’s program. What a life saver – now with Matt’s study principals and Carspace , all I have to do is to get proficient with it and use it on every image I produce – correct perspective – next I have to study shadows, the second most important aspect to making believable and realistic scenes.

So every once in a while I find a software that is a killer.   I hope I have some readers who are artists and are interested in how to calculate perspective for their drawings or how to create a perspective grid for an existing photograph.   To the rescue -  Warren Marshall  from Epic Games  released  CARSPACE perspective software (freeware)Capture

Hope you find these tutorials and software helpful.

Bang Saen Beach and Monkey Mountain

Sawadee Khrap

Just took a short trip about 40 KM North from Pattaya to Bang Saen _MG_3218Beach area to visit my friend, Don, in his new digs.   Great beach, clean, little or no farangs there, and so the locals are very friendly.  This family style beach is normally used by the folks from Bangkok, rather than going down to the Pattaya (sex) area, and by the students from the local schools and University.

***** SLIDESHOW *****

_MG_3209-Edit

As you can see in the slideshow there are some great walking only areas and tandem bicycle  rental places there.  Food everywhere and the vendors area is not in your face.  Ample chairs and huge long beach to wander about.

Looks like a wonderful beach to go to and relax —

From here we went to visit the “Monkey Mountain”  actually Khaoi Sam Muk and San Chao Mae Temple._MG_3259  Drove past these kids and got a wonderful “Hello” – ha ha._MG_3288

Most Thai’s know the background story of this mountain and the story of the lovers who jumped off the cliff after having vowed _MG_3342_MG_3311eternal love for each other. – now taken over by a large number of wild monkeys.

Nice view and plenty of monkeys to feed and photograph – the Monkey Temple around the corner is also a great photographic adventure – lots of detail in all the statues.

***** SLIDESHOW *****

The slideshows tell it all – next time I will get more in depth images – hopefully of some of the college boys who hang out there and the local shopping mall not too far away.     Great living area Don

Ciao.

Comments, Comments, and more Comments

Sawadee Khrap

I have to thank all of you who commented on the blog – it really boosts my desire to continue.  I also have to apologize if I missed any of your comments – I was just checking the blog’s  “spam”  filter on comments and see that during last 8 months alone it’s detected and halted:

306,514  “spam” comments.

Amazing – and mine is such a trivial blog, I can’t imagine what some commercial blogs or more popular web-sites have to monitor.

Each morning I go through all submitted comments and post the non-spam ones – I hope I haven’t missed any of yours – but this is the first time I’ve checked on the accrued number of spam submissions, and what a surprise.

Anyway – Thanks for all your comments, I really appreciate them.

KEEP THEM COMMING
