Changes, Changes, Changes

Sawasdee Khrap

Making a lot of changes now – trying to make the Blog, Store and Gallerys easier to use and the general theme of the site more apparent — Your comments are really helping, we just wish we had a better background of web design. Sorry, we are taking so long – quite a learning process.

We are updating “Tour’s Best” – Bird’s Tours – for better content and photos  — and it will also have next seasons new pricing  – Mock-ups look great – hope you like it when finished.

We are trying to incorporate the “Asiancoop.com” flash Title used in the Gallery into the Blog, so the sites are more consistent.   That’s not as easy as we thought it would be — again the learning curve — but doing so is also teaching us how to embed “Flash” movies into the Blog and Gallery — that way we can show you movie clips, such as small clips on the different tours offered, short movies about the Artist we sponsor, and scenes from Frank’s travels.  We’re hoping that these will help make the site more attractive. What do you think?

Anyway – it’s your comments that give us the incentive and guidance to make the site more inviting.

Thanks so much,

Tasanai & Frank

Please Check Out the Store

Sawasdee Khrap

Just got the store and blog integrated – Please check it out and be sure and leave some comments.

The images in the store right now are set at low resolution – we will start to bring them higher while at the same time reducing the size of the code to reduce loading times. Lot of work still ahead.

Some of the images – Pong’s artwork for example – were shot in bad lighting and will have to be replaced – sorry Pong.  Her work is so beautiful we feel bad that the images turned out so poorly, We’ll get those changed next week.  We have only included enough images to fill the pages  – now we will develop a larger Gallery.  Really looking for your input to decide which images or scenes you would like to see.

Just click on the “ARTIST – GALLERY – STORE” in the upper Menu and have a look.

We are also looking for State-Side sales Reps  (U.S.)  for the products shown – interested ????

Drop us a email.

Thanks

Earthquake last night

We must have been very tired after Tasanai’s Birthday and next day celebration –  It was a great party and yesterday we took the family to the Airport Shopping Center – Got some pictures but we’ll post them later  – the quake is news now.   last night about 12 PM we had a earthquake (5.1) about 30 miles away and we didn’t feel it.  All over the news this morning they were talking about it  – showing buildings, even ours, checking for damage and we slept through it. –  Some of the older ones showed some cracks but our building – nothing

The quake was centered in Mae Rim, about 30 miles away where the tourtist usually go to see the elephant camp and where the Orchid farms are.  Apparently some real damage there. I had some pictures of our trip to here when Tin was visiting from San francisco.  They didn’t know this fault existed and are now giving it a name. — We still can’t understand how we slept through it – they said that there was also over 20 after shocks.

Anyway, got the Store loaded into the servers today and in testing phase before we begin to change the blog to link it.  Within the next week we will create the menu links to set it in the blog – Sent out email for some to test it now and will use their comments to get out the bugs.

and for everyone else   MERRY CHRISTMAS –  if we don’t have it fully functional by then.

Frank & Tasanai

Where the hell is the Store and Gallery ?????

Sawasdee Khrap

Good question, Whew, all of the images for the galleries are loaded, code is ready for PayPal and pages all have some writing.  I say “writing” because I just put something for each image, even a one liner, just to get it going.  So don’t get too critical on me for the starting setup.

This weekend will be devoted to Tasanai’s birthday.  Tomorrow we start making setup for Sunday’s party.  Tasanai is planning on special food plates and setting the condo in pretty fancy flower arrangements.  We have set the guest list to just a few friends and family.  But all activity on the store and gallery will have to wait till this is over.  I’ll have some pictures of the party to show you next week .

After Monday, I will start the testing in the PayPal sand-box.  This is a mock version of PayPal that I can run any test of the store code before setting it open in the web.  Ha Ha they call it the sand-box – time to play.  It should take at least 2 days to test out all the pages and PayPal options – then I can upload to our web-site and open it up.  I’m planning on Wed or Thu.  Anyway I’m excited and I hope you will be when you see the GALLERY and STORE open for business.

Till then

King’s Birthday – Nov 5th

Sawasdee Khrap

Well tomorrow is the King’s Birthday and a National Holiday here – actually it’s called Father’s Day and we will go to Lampang to celebrate with Tasanai’s family.

We’re taking a computer system over to give to the family and the kids can use it for school work. Tasanai’s brother, Thanon Chai’s birthday is Jan 2 so this will serve as Father’s Day, Christmas, and Thanon Chai’s present. Hope it will help him with school – he’s studying PhotoShop right now and being able to practice at home should really give him some extra help. They don’t have a lot of computers at school – so the kids can use it to study at home – I hope to see them having good grades.

Just adding the finishing touches to the Store and Gallery, didn’t think it would take this much typing – have to add a small description to every image in the Gallerys and especially for the artist products being shown. I have just started testing it on PayPal to make sure that the credit card part is working OK and then I will set up the Form-Mail for contact purposes. I’m still planning on the end of the month as the latest – sorry I won’t be able to get it done before the Christmas buying rush – bummer – but for next year we should have a tried and tested system and several new great artist and their works available. I am just putting in a short description for all the images now – but will continue to add to it as time goes by.

Anyway, just wanted to post where we are at – And the San Mateo number is active now  650-227-2913 and will accept voice messages.    see you soon at the STORE

Ciao

Frank & Tasanai.

Store update

Sawasdee Khrap

Well the store is just about ready – the new template is great. We are now working on the photos that we will start offer first. So far we’ve planned 8 gallerys:

# 1 – Hand Carved Soap Flowers by Nattapoun

#2 – Photo Reproductions by Piyachart

#3 – Po Leaf & Sa Paper Artwork by Pong

#4 – Landscapes – images from our travels

#5 – Flora & Fauna

#6 – Temples in Thailand

#7 – not yet defined

#8 – not yet defined

Paypal is set up and will accept purchases and deposits for projects.

I think you’ll like the new site addition – some major changes will be needed to be done to the blog to include the Gallery, I will start working on them next week.

Tasanai

P.S. Frank is recovering from a infected ear but is expected to be at full steam shortly.

New P.O.Box too

Sawasdwee Khrap

Forgot – today I got a new P.O. Box at our local Post Office.

P.O. Box 237

Phrasing Post Office

Chiang Mai 50205 Thailand

We will use this for AsianCoOp and business type mail that will not need to go to the Condo. Our personal mail will still go to the HillSide4 address.

UpDate on store software

I have settled on using ZenCart as the shopping cart software for the store – but I am waiting for my Hosting Service to make the newest version a standard and available for one-click installment and upgrades. That they say will happen within a week so I will wait and have them install the newest version. Doing that will make sure that I am setup for upgrades when they have been checked out by the Hosting Service.

Once I get the latest software installed I will bring it on line without a full face change to make sure it is working correctly – I will have all our products listed and available for purchase through PayPal – that will be the only payment gateway for a while – later I will bring on line the other cards – Visa, MasteCharge, etc.

Without any other problems I should have the whole thing up and running for the Christmas season. Fingers crossed.

Frank

Update on Store

Here’s the latest on the web-site store.  Still cannot get a good shopping cart program to integrate with the blog – by integrate I mean easy to program into the blog and easy to find products when searching.  So far I can only find a stand alone very complicated shopping cart software, it is intended for stores that have a lot of items and categories – of our store with just a few different products it’s overkill and much too difficult to use by the shoppers.  I am trying to see how I can have links to just the product pages shown on the blog and run the store from a separate site  – maybe that will work.  I have had a lot of inquires about purchasing the artist products I have show on the blog and so I will try to get this working.  Please bear with me –

Shopping Cart software

Sawasdee Khrap

I just checked with the company that produces the Shopping Cart Software we hope to use – still not completed, but should be ready soon – looks like it has the features we are looking for so I hope it works for our site.

Tasanai and I have just moved into our new apartment (condo) and are working on setting up the place. Plants for the balcony (great view – I’ll take some pictures) and rooms, furniture selection, need to get full kitchen stuff – turning into quite a job.

The building we have our place in is actually a “Condotel” a Condo/Hotel. It has units for short or long term rental as well as purchased condos. We have a long term rental lease and in addition when we have guest they can rent a furnished studio unit while they are here – 850 Baht a night ($22 US). We are also looking at available units for sale – we may just buy one.

Almost finished in the computer room so I have no excuses to slow down on my posting – I am getting several posts ready for next week on some of the earlier trips I have taken – some good pictures —- and I will also get some shots of the new apartment too.

Ciao for now

Frank

Posting a “Comment”

Sawasdee Khrap

We have had several inquires about how to post comments – Apparently something doesn’t work correctly on the site. At the bottom of the article, or footer of each post, there should be a line similar to:

Category (i.e. Main)                    Post a Comment

or

Main, Thai Holidays                      1 Comment (Show inline)

You should just be able to click on “Post a Comment” and it will open up the editor. Posts already having comments should show, as in the example above “1 Comments (Show inline) and clicking on this link will display the comments and the editor so you can add your comments.

If this doesn’t work I will need to change the theme – or maybe it would be best to change the color, for example “red” would be more visible. What would be your suggestions – Please try out the comment link and if it does not work you can email me and I will change the code.

Also “Login “ at the present time is limited to staff only. When we get in our new apartment and the computers are set up again I will remove it from the main menu. In the future we do want to allow others to be able to post articles and they will have to login to do so. We will let you know when and how to sign-up as a author. We do want your participation.

Thanks

Tasanai { back at work }

Major changes

Hi

Sawasdee Khrap

Normally I just put in posts about my travels in Thailand – but this time I have some bad news – Tasanai is no longer with us. We will miss him.

The web-site and store operations will be handled completely out of San Francisco while Theo is searching for a replacement to hire.  The new “storefront” software should be installed and operating very soon.  I understand that it will be initially limited to PayPal only transactions but should have full credit card capabilities within the next few months.  In addition, he is also using this time to review your great suggestions and make the site easier to use.

Well, with the bad news out of the way, I try to get back to my retirement.  I will be looking forward to some new excursions to Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai’s “unseen” treasures and hope to have some pictures and posts to share.

Cyclone hits Chiang Mai

Sawasdee Khrap

Sunday – and the cyclone coming from Burma is going through Chiang Mai. Lots of rain – but not continuous, cooling and refreshing. With each clearing, the beautiful towering white clouds and deep blue sky really set Chiang Mai alive.

We’re also getting ready to celebrate:
The Kingdom of Thailand celebrates Wan Chatramongkhol (Coronation Day) on Friday, May 5 which marks the 60th anniversary of the Coronation of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great.

Check out the full story from the Chiang Mai Mail.

The Kad Suan Kaew Shopping center is teaming with people – they have seminars, play areas for the kids, special booths for clothing sale items – The Hotel, we stay at, is booked. It’s amazing – supposed to be the ‘slow’ season and I’d swear there are more people here than last Nov-Dec at the height of the tourist season. The tourist from China are increasing every day – bus load after bus load get here – Looks like Chiang Mai is fast becoming a major Chinese playground too.

We received several emails with suggestions on how to improve the web-site. Excellent ideas we want to try. We are working on them now and should be making some great changes to the layout and theme. Thanks everyone for your input and help.

I’ll get back to you with some new pictures soon

Online- but not complete

Hi

This is our new format – Please check it out and leave a comment or suggestion. Most of the pages have been completed and I hope you like them. We have not opened the site up to full traffic yet. We plan to publish to the search engines as soon as the “Store” portion is fully functional.

The store isn’t open yet because we had to change software – the cart we were using, or trying to use, wouldn’t handle our products correctly, so we are setting up a new one. Also searching for a special product was a real problem – seemed to take forever and was not a simple point and click. Hopeful the new cart will eliminate these problems.

Frank is getting ready to start posting his weekly travel logs here and has started to shut down his other blog — you can now find him here at:

Category – Frank’s Blog ——— see the Categories and Archive sections.

I will also begin posting more about Thailand, it’s culture, holidays, food and “Unseen” treasures. I hope you will like these and we need the comments to help the site grow *** please leave a comment and your suggestions *** of Thailand places or things you would like to know more about.

Thanks

Songkran 2006

It’s New Year!!, Thai style! Here are some pictures from the festival outside our office here in Chiang Mai. It’s 107 F. but you really don’t mind the sweltering heat when your getting drenched. Wet, Wild and Wonderful – says the Bangkok Post.
This festival, which lasts from April 13th to the 15th is celebrated all across Thailand – but no where like here in the north. Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Lampang have events Wet,Wild, Wonderful…and parades every day. Be prepared to get drenched and have a lot of fun. Where we are located, several stages have been setup for dancing and music – the streets are full of people, loud music , water and traffic is at a stand still – there are kids in the back of trucks with 55 gal drums of water, soaking everyone who walks by.

CRW4145PlaceJPGWater guns, buckets of water & water canons are your only defense, everyone has one – join in the fun. Not a cloud in the sky, but today rivers of water are running down the curbs. You would swear we are in the middle of the monsoon season.

And did I mention the sweaters, tee shirts and pants – wet and showing every curve, quite a show. You need to be here – it’s fantastic. – Next time – plan your vacation in Thailand.
