Mike & Pop House Blessing–Si Sa Ket

Sawadee Khrap

IMG_1926Drove to Khunhan, Si Sa Ket for the Monk Blessing for Mike Bloss and Pop’s new house – 600 KM from Pattaya – 11.5 hour drive up – very heavy traffic – but only a 7 hour return trip.  Ted & Toss , Mark (from Florida) and myself as driver.

Mike had hired a band, girl dancers, stage setup for 5 hr during the day after the monk ceremony and blessing – great crowd – locals from this village and the adjoining one.  Here are some casual shots – used the G15 so I’m not used to it – also I took most shots standing up and looking down – bad photography – sorry but just taking snaps

Camera died after Son & Kevin’s shoot

Sawadee Khrap

Got back from the beach with Son & Kevin and had a short photo shoot – then problems with the 7D – apparently some water entered the body at Sai Kaew Beach and shorted out the motherboard – at least that is what the camera repair tech thinks from first look – hoping to have it back in 2 weeks – maybe just in time for New Year’s parties.  Anyway !!!

Maybe next year I can get them back for a better session – I have my Excella Flash setup up for sale and if I sell it I will purchase a set of LED light boxes  – in confined space I think they will work better than the Casa 250’s.   The flashes are very strong and in tight spots really easy to develop hot spots in the images – with light banks I should have more better luck .

A few more from Sai Kaew

Sawadee Khrap

_MG_6607_MG_6682_MG_6679_MG_6636It was a fun afternoon – we turned a lot of heads, raised a lot of eyebrows and had a great time – at least the boys did – many families on the beach and I think they thought we were doing a swim wear photo shoot  – a couple of them just stood out of range and watched.  Kevin was more shy but Son was just a showman – he had a lot of fun playing to the camera – great, erotic poses – don’t you think ?

Kevin & Son to Sai Kaew Beach

Sawadee Khrap

_MG_6878_MG_6528

Beach was really crowded, at least 800 or so when we got there – so we headed to the far end where it was less populated – Had lunch at the restaurant – some nice Chinese eye candy – for me , the boys didn’t care – and then they went for a swim and some photos:

Then back to the condo for some inside shots – not good lighting in studio area so I only got a few images – I am working on them now and will submit to the boys for their approval before I post them – But all in all, had a great day, I got a little sunburn – they didn’t,  lot of fun both at the beach and later trying to get some couple shots.  The boys promised to come back and do the shoot again when the lighting is better.  We did raise a few eyebrows at the beach though – Angry smile – don’t you wish you could have been there ?

Oops – just noticed I got the horizon slanted on a couple of images – I’ll correct later  – apparently just concentrating on the boys and missed it –

Home Sickness

Sawadee Khrap

Home-sicknessI know many boys who have had the chance to visit other countries and live there a short time – but always looking out side  – It was not Thailand.  Home sickness was always there – it’s a common saying here   “You can take the boy out of the bar but you can never take the bar out of the boy”  – the same is with anyone’s home land – home sickness, however small, is still there.  Culture, landscapes, sights and sounds, smells linger in the mind -  The image above showing a Thai boy staring out the window to what could be a European or Western setting reminds me of this and my own occasional feelings.    Agree ?

Back from Chiang Mai – doctor report

Sawadee Khrap

Just got back from Chiang Mai to see the doctor about my Blood Pressure.  He cut back my Valsartan morning dosage by half and approved the Cialis as a lowering agent too.  I do feel 100 % better at the lower dosage and don’t have the dizziness like before and no ED.  The report has my cholesterol levels within the acceptable range and they appear to be getting better – I attribute that to the oatmeal every morning and the High DHA Fish Oil I have been taking – so little adjustments to the  med. regime I was taking is working. – Just reduce the Valsartan and continue as before – Oh Ya.  I did add back the Folic acid for the kidneys.

CBI stayed at the B2 Green Santiham  while I was there  – a short 20 min walk to Sirphat Hospital and/or the local shopping centers – great location, great place to stay just off Huay Kaew Rd on the Northeast corner of the Old City.  And they just built a new restaurant right around the corner from the B2 – “Corner Bistro” – Owner Kevin Lo,  a US-Thai who used to live in New York has a GREAT menu, staff and excellent tasty food – open at 7 AM  – great for breakfast – only one in the area open that early – breakfast and a short walk for exercise – beautiful.  Dinners are great too –

citylife fairAlso went to the City Life  JJ Market Garden Fair – Met a lot of old friends there and had a great time – excellent food, booths and entertainment – Steve , reporter for CityLife Mag, snap a picture while I was getting a foot massage – and for the rest of the trip everywhere I went they knew I was in town – I just searched and I can’t find the photos but they must be there somewhere – Thanks Steve

Pattaya Park Tower

Sawadee Khrap

Just getting around to posting the images taken at Pattaya Park Tower with Charlie._MG_6511IMG_1633IMG_1646

The first shot is from my condo looking toward the Tower itself – we went up to the 54th floor for lunch and the view.  It has a revolving floor that in 1 hour will allow you to see all of Pattaya – plus there is a gondola and harness rides available – second image shows the harness ride and the view of Pattaya Beach Area – the lower image is looking East at my condo.  The windows in the tower are slanted in such a way I could not eliminate the restaurant reflections – sorry also the tinting of the glass really cuts out the colors, but you can still see the perspective..

P.S.  That’s not Charlie in the harness – neither one of us wanted to try it.

Grand Caribbean Status

Sawadee Khrap

_MG_6507_MG_6510A couple of friends asked what was happening with the construction of the “30 story Grand Caribbean Tower” just up the road from my condo.  Here’s the latest shot from my balcony – work is daily but on the inside so no images – structure itself appears to be in the drying stage before the walls are installed and its sealed up.  Behind the green wrapping is 4 – 8 story units and again only inside construction.  The whole thing is supposed to be open in late 2015 and looks like its on track to do so – before I leave Pattaya I will visit and see if I can get some inside shots.

Another trip to LakeLand

Sawadee Khrap

_MG_5909Took another trip to LakeLand – Pattaya  to test out the new method using  “Back Button Focusing”  on the 7D. (see my earlier post “Tack Sharp”)   I like it, but will take a lot of practice to make it feel natural – I am used to half-down Shutter focusing – standard way most DSLR are factory setup.  Using  BBF the focusing is independent from the shutter button so tracking is a lot easier and shots are more controlled – at least that’s what they say and I am finding it to be true as I get accustomed to it…..  So here are some examples of shots of the day  – _MG_6298_MG_6017

_MG_5932_MG_6036_MG_6304_MG_6327_MG_6437_MG_6439_MG_6441_MG_6110

These shots are just random across the day –  to see the value in BBF you need to compare a sequence of shots following the subject – for example 8 in a series – tack on focusing – and total control when the image is taken – you don’t miss a shot because the camera was re-focusing after every shot.  Too many to post here but every action shot is sharp and captures the second I wanted.  Just use high speed shutter and fire away – focusing independent.

The last 4 shots were of a new friend “Martin” who I meet at the Park and took a lot of images – right now he’s checking all of them over to see what he likes the best  – then I’ll further process and prepare them for printing – these are just a quick selection from the days activity.

Tack Sharp

Sawadee Khrap

TackSharp

Got a DSLR camera – looking for “tack sharp” images ?    This book is a must – I just learned how to get images that I have had trouble with trying to focus for the last 3 years – his techniques are great and he fully explains how to set up your camera’s special features to INSURE Tack Sharp Images.  Amazing – just tried out his settings at Lakeland Water Cable – Pattaya and “0’ed ” in on these moving shots with ease.  This was just a test run so I now have my camera setup and will go back to get some great images in a few days – just a sample here._MG_4599   Sorry don’t know who the skiers were.   Just some quick shots to check the _MG_4494procedure and then back to the computer to confirm the focus – next time I will spend more time and get some better shots of the guys – promise

Plavix update

Sawadee Khrap

I just walked back from lunch  – actually I felt I wanted  to walk back from lunch – what a difference from just 3 days ago – walking was a strain and something I dreaded.  Every morning I would eat my oatmeal, take my meds and then go for a 1/2 mile walk around the buildings – usually with aching hips ( actually I am told its my gluteal muscles that are aching).  I wanted to increase the distance but the hip pain would get too great.

Since I hadn’t had a stent placement and Plavix is usually recommended after operations to eliminated buildup in the stent – I thought it was probably not necessary for me to continue taking it – but had read that to just stop cold could be dangerous and everyone recommended weaning off it.  That would also cut my meds cost.  I am taking Aspin and that should have been enough thinning to eliminate possible strokes.  So I started cutting down on it,  weaning off the Plavix  (blood thinner) by extending the days between doses and had really started feeling better but found that my morning “wood” was diminishing – couldn’t have that – so I started taking it again –  what a shock that was – hip pain back.

WOW – this stuff was causing all my butt muscle pain – I have now stopped for 3 days and already my desire for walking has returned – little and/or no hip pain, getting better every day -  but this means the “wood” problem will have to be addressed in another way – but it is apparent that having thinner blood is allowing better erection response.  So after a week free of Plavix I will check to see how the erections are going and look for an additional blood thinner that will help – preferable natural, maybe garlic, turmeric, or better yet the Blackmores fish oil that I’m taking now will also help in this area in addition to the cholesterol control.   I want to cut my meds down to as little as possible and hopefully to only natural food sources if possible.

But for now – NO PLAVIX – this stuff is poison for me, as was all the earlier heart medicines that had been prescribed before -  I have also found out that I need to take the fish oil at lunch – giving it all day to take affect because taking it at dinner was affecting my sleeping  – probably because the evening kicker dose of Valsartan and the fish oil were combining and that made it hard to fall asleep.  Anyway I am now taking the fish oil at noon and so far blood pressure seems ok – I’ll check sleeping problems tonight – I’ll also have a blood test next week to see if everything else is where it should be or getting better – I’m also planning on having another CAT scan done, about  Feb – almost a year from the first one,  to see if there is improvement or not……  Should be interesting.

Jomtien update

Sawadee Khrap

For those of you who have been to Jomtien within the last year and a half – remember the holes in the sidewalks – well something is being done about them finally.20141001_10134120141001_101439

Theses are shots from standing in front of the “Sketch Café” looking both directions – apparently they will be finished soon – wires are still overhead but I guess you have to start somewhere – so I suppose in late 2015 or 2016 we can expect that they should be underground –  Moving on to Jomtien Complex  – I took a shot of the new 20141001_101908“Boy GaGa” and as you can see “X-man” next door is no longer around – many other changes but I didn’t get photos yesterday , I was just walking to the bank and snapped these quick shots.  I’m going to have to go down and document  the whole area and the venues there now.  Maybe some nights shots too.

If you go to the beach – Jomtien Dongtan Beach  – you will see that the chairs have been moved back a little – not as far as I think they should be – but at least a move in the right direction. – More area to walk up and down the beach without getting in the water.  There have been threats of the Army coming in and fixing the situation if the vendors don’t conform to the allotted spaces – but they are still playing the defiant role and I guess just waiting to see if the Military is going to have to remove them – which they will – only time will tell here.
