Earthquake Data

Sawadee Khrap

I just received a comment for a 2007 Post  – Another Earthquake – about the Burma quake near Chiang Mai from a reader – Sharon Thornton from the “International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics”.  IUGGWOW,  thanks Sharon for reading the blog and finding some of it’s articles of value.  I have added your comments to the actual post in question so others can benefit and I also will post them here.  It’s nice to know that people of all walks of life are finding something of value in the Blog besides just looking at the pretty pictures of the boys.  I really appreciate the interest and comment – Thank you.

I’m planning on moving back to Chiang Mai after the first of the year and will certainly use the sites you pointed out to monitor the possibilities of future quakes around or near CM..

Again thanks Sharon.

It’s LOW SEASON — No Shit

Sawadee Khrap

20140930_143305Here’s a shot at 2:30 today, Tuesday 30th down Jomtien Beach area walkway – if you look very, very, very far in the distance you may be able to just make out “Ted” on his daily walk with hands behind his back. – That is how slow it is around here lately.  This is the worse it has ever been – by everyone I’ve talked to  – NEVER this bad.

But wait  – just posted in the ThaiVisa.com newsletter is a new article with important information being mulled over to advance tourism –wrist bands   “Wrist Bands for Tourists”

Now this is a novel approach – destined to stand out as the remedy of the year.  But you need to read the article yourself. – Love the responses too.

“The Diamonds” now and then

Sawadee Khrap

Thanks Kevin for this link – but it does show my age – wow memories.

Cick on the image to start the videothe diamonds

THEY ARE STILL GREAT . . . THIS WILL PUT A SMILE ON YOUR FACE…

If you were alive in 1957, and old enough to enjoy Rock and Roll, you will probably remember the group, "The Diamonds" who had just launched their super hit "Little Darlin’ ".
For you that are too young to remember – it was a time when the performers were happy, enjoying themselves, respecting their fans, dressed appropriately and their lyrics could be understood.   They did not feel obligated to scream, eat the microphone, mumble inaudible lyrics or trash the set.
In 1957, The Diamonds had a hit with "Little Darlin" 47 years later, they were requested to perform at Atlantic City …  This link leads to both performances.  Watch the first one then scroll down for the new one 47 years later.   Tom Hanks father is much better looking than Tom, and even better looking with age. In the linked videos Tom Hank’s father is the lead singer on the left. He still has it! Hope you enjoy.

Posture re-alignment

Sawadee Khrap

It’s been over 30 years since I even thought about my posture, yet tried to do anything about it.   For that matter, I cannot think of a time when I did tried to develop it.  But now, in my “Golden” years,  (is that what they call them ? ) stiff necks, tight back muscles, sore knees and feet – it’s about time to look into the matter.  Thanks to “Flying Step”  I am doing just that and can happily report that after 4 days of using the back harness and about a month in the new arch supports – WHAT A DIFFERENCE.  Walking is becoming extremely easy – my morning walking distance is increasing every day and hip, leg, feet problems seem to be going away.  I say SEEM.  because just 4 days, of wearing the harness for just one hour,  is hardly time to say anything is back to normal – but that’s what I am beginning to feel like.   I’ll wear it for one hour/day for the rest of this week and on the first of August start the 4-6 hr./day – focusing on my time spent at the computer.   About Aug 4th, I will go and have the arch supports adjusted for full efficiency.   Check it out if you have any back or feet problems.

By the way, my blood pressure has been stable, averaging 123/56 for the last 3 weeks – and I also found that taking 1/8 of a 20 mg Cialis tab daily helps the BP and keeps an active libido. Turning 74 in Sept and need all the help I can get.

You can find and follow the whole story in the “Hospital/Medicine” links category on the right side.

Posture corrector–FlyingStep

Sawadee Khrap

Back-Brace--Flying-Step-copyFlyingStep-BackBrace-webJust got my FlyingStep back brace posture corrector.   Sergey came over and helped me put it on for the first time – INSTRUCTIONS – wear ONLY for 1 hour/day for the first week.  After that 6 hours a day, especially while working at the computer.  This is also the first time in a long time that I could wear a “S” size, I have a 34 in. waist.       Real Quality.

What a difference !!!   I could really feel the change to my posture and the pressure it was putting on my back reminding me to sit up straight  -  I need a lot of correction and after one hour I could really feel the changes being developed and was glad to take it off.  I am sure that wearing this will correct my back problems and pain from being hunched over.  I’ll wear it for 1 hr. for the following week and report back before I start on long term correction.

Flying step logo 3-FinalIf your interested, you can get one from Sergey at Flying Step for 3,300 Baht. (see a earlier post for his company) or you can let me know by comment and I will pass it on to him.

Chiang Mai trip

Sawadee Khrap

IMG_144620140710_091350-EditJust got back from a great visit to Chiang Mai – first I went to see  ‘Kay”.   Got to spend a couple of days with him in between his working and we got in a visit to Doi Suthep – I’ll post some photos later.  We’re hoping to be able to get together when I move back to Chiang Mai.  The day I left he made this beautiful flower arrangement for me.  He has been my inspiration and helper during my visits at the hospital – I’ll post the results on that ordeal in a future post – but everything checked out OK and no operation is needed at this time – what a relief.

20140708_183655I stayed at the B2Geen Hotel, just around the corner from the Soho Bar on Huay Kaew Rd.  They have the greatest TukTuk I have seen so far – 20140709_182832 Used it to go to dinner with Jim and Mike at Pern’s the night before I left Chiang Mai  20140709_182511Here’s a  shot of Jim’s newly re-furbished Honda Motorcycle – what a beauty.

I also got to visit David Cooper at McKean Retirement Home at Dok Kaew Gardens  – Jim and I took him to lunch at IMG_1379the Marrakech Restaurant at the Shiek Istana Hotel – what a beautiful place and great food.IMG_1391IMG_1394

Nice trip – great weather , flight and time.  Took bus up and AsiaAir  flight back.

Don’t throw away your old Photoshop CC

Sawadee Khrap

AdobeWell the great updates to Adobe Creative Cloud 2014 are here and it really has some neat new stuff – BUT, what the fuck they dropped “Oil Paint Filter”.

What a bummer – for the last few weeks I have been touting the Jack Davis Paint technique – and It’s based on the oil paint filter – Thank God the new Photoshop (2014) doesn’t remove or overwrite the old CC version so you still filter in the older one.  But, I have to admit that the new 2014 is really a step up, great new features and improved speed, new filters and mobile ready.  – just have to use the old version for the initial painting rendering and then switch to the 2014 version for final output – what the hell  – It works.

So if you’re a photographer or want to be Digital Painter – join the cloud with the Photographer’s $9.99 bundle and get the new 2014 and the older CC Photoshop versions loaded – you can get both.  That way you have the best of both worlds.

In related sad news, I have just found out that a several of my young friends from the beach have been diagnosed with HIV – I am so grateful that we have the medicines to fight it now and they can still enjoy a future life with proper medication – I just hope and pray that they avail themselves of it and begin to practice safer sexual habits, more importantly that they pass this information on and warn their friends of the consequences of not protecting themselves.

Serenity and Peacefullness–Our actual state

Sawadee Khrap

Particularly during this last 3-4 weeks, since I found out about the current artery blockages, I need to thank God for showing me “A Course in Miracles”.   As always, everything I need, I have, if I but look around and ask.   I also realized, that in 1989, while driving my car in Pacifica, I must have had a minor heart attack.  I remember having a extremely sharp chest pain – didn’t last long – but it was a very sever pain similar to what I have experienced lately and so strong that I have not forgotten it.   I remember pulling over to the side of the road and waiting till I regained composure and brushed it off as bad indigestion.   That was also during the time frame of the start of my sobriety and relationship with Christ.

Today I did a quick check of todays lesson (113) at  “Pathways of Light” daily “ACIM” lessons web-page and just had to post part of it here – this is exactly how I feel.  Many are walking this path with me and it’s nice to share our thoughts.

“I definitely can see that my life is more peaceful than it was before I began studying the Course. Every year has brought me to more consistent levels of deeper peace. Yet I still experience frustration, impatience, irritation and disappointment, which shows me that I am still valuing things of this world more than my unity with Love, my one Self. The fact that I do experience more consistent peace shows me that the practice is working. It’s worth continuing the practice.
Each time I remind myself that I am one Self united with my Creator and that salvation comes from my one Self, my identification with a separate self image loosens. My attention shifts more and more strongly to the one Self that I am in truth. I am grateful for these lessons that provide a structure to help me shift my identification from the false to the true, from the conflicted to the peaceful. “

The Saga goes on – this Friday I will speak to another Heart Surgeon in Chiang Mai, who I’m told can do the operation at a rate similar to that of BKK Chulalongkorn Hospital.  If all is agreed I will probably go to Chiang Mai and have at least one stent put in.  I feel more secure having it done in CM, I’m really starting to feel alone now in BKK & Pattaya since most of my friends here have moved away – I still have many friends in CM.

Soon I’ll post the whole story for anyone who’s thinking of coming to Thailand for medical reasons ( paying from their own pocket ), so they won’t get caught up in the “Medical Tourist”  trap – great if you have it, but a nightmare if you are not insured – retired and over 70.   Still I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

Ciao.
