Well, seems like everything is back in order for a while – Songkran has been extended till Friday to make up for the loss due to the riots.  I will go down tomorrow to the Central Shopping Center to get some shots of the fun “sanuk” being had by all.

I don’t want to get into Thai politics and want to make sure this blog is concerning living, enjoying and helping farangs living in or planning to come to Thailand  – not a soap box for any group, even a gay cause.  But if it turns sour for the local gay community I will post about it when I move out, till then I will keep you posted on gay and other happenings in the Chiang Mai area – Check out BBC and CNN for the latest news.

Strange_snow0741Strange_snowlow0732Nu is preparing a DVD of The Gate Theater Group – “Strange Snow” by Stephen Metcalfe, Directed by Stephan Turner.  He taped it last Friday night and is now editing the DVD, maybe a short clip if we can set it up for the Blog.  The plot:

“Strange snow falls on two young Vietnam veterans as they reunite for a fishing trip to make good on a long lost promise to an old friend. It’s dawn on Opening Day and Megs shows up at his buddy David's house only to encounter David's shy, plain

Image008Mark Gerard  just sent me this terrific article on the actual thought process that  created this portrait.  He sent it to me as a Word document and I converted it to a web-page to post here.

 —— Painting a Portrait ——

I think I’m going to try some painting too – but not with actual paints but digitally.  Adobe Photoshop has brushes and is capable of producing images that appear like copies of paintings – coupled with special printing paper, very realistic paintings are possible.

Now, with my studio close to completion and several boys already willing to pose, I should have enough material to start painting – errr, (Is painting the proper word to use, or should I say processing?)

CorelPainterBut the “real” painting program is Corel Painter.  This program is “the cat’s meow”.

Corel says “ultimate digital art studio for anyone ready to expand their definition of creativity. Working with the most advanced digital painting and natural media tools available, you can create the art you’ve always envisioned”.

I had an older version and found it had a very steep learning curve – probably because I have no painting talent.  But now, as I am slower and have the time to learn – not to mention the great material I can “paint” – I think I’ll get the latest version ( 12, I think is out now ) and

What a great evening of music – afterwards we went with Jonas & Laurent and their extended family to “The Writers Club and Wine Bar” up the street for late conservations and drinks.

Jonas and Laurent are planning on many more future presentations at different locations around Chiang Mai and we will definitely go and gather more pictures for the blog.  Great entertainment – make sure to catch these shows when you visit Chiang Mai.  I’ll try to post their calendar of up-comming events.

Saturday night, 28th, we had the pleasure of going to “The Gate Theater Group’s” presentation of “The Gin Game” at the Kad Suan Kaew Shopping Center – Kad Studio Theater.  We were invited by the Matchett’s to video tape the show and make a DVD for them.

“The Gate Theater Group is a not-for-profit volunteer network established for the purpose of bringing the performing arts to Chiang Mai.  Among their goals are the  development and recruitment of local talent, the encouragement of young people’s interest in theater arts, and above all the delivery of an enjoyable theatrical experience to our audiences”

Here is the program sheet:

We missed the previous presentation “The Dodo Bird” because we were out of town, glad we made this one – very, very well done.  Superb sets, acting and of course the play itself.  What a neat little theater and I didn’t even know it was there.  Not sure what a Dodo Bird is?

We took about 1.5 hours of tape and produced a DVD for them – We also took many photos – or I should say Nu took a bunch – I did the video this time.   Tried out several new procedures in making the cover and DVD itself and really pleased with the outcome, here’s what the DVD looked like:

Bronze Boy     [Andre 1999]

BronzeBoy3

I just got some pictures of David’s,  a friend of ours, Bronze Boy statue by Andre 1999.   It really caught my eye as it was setting in his garden.  The statue was presented to him as a gift by the artist and he had it shipped from the UK to Chiang Mai several years ago.  The cost of shipping it was very expensive because the statue is a bronze casting and really heavy.

BronzeBoy4BronzeBoy1

I talked to David about allowing  a mold to be made and casting resin copies of the work and putting them on our web site for sale.  The statue is about 3 foot. long and by casting it in resin it should be fairly light, at least enough to keep the shipping charges in line.

Thought I’d post images of it here and see if people are interested in getting one.  Don’t know the cost yet but for a mantle or center piece in the garden it is unique and exclusive.  Once I find a artist or caster to make the above copy, they could also create modifyed poses. Think of the possibilities.

What do you think? – worth checking into.?
